What should my nursing application look like?
A successful application must include the following documents:
First step - Before you start
You must always present the original or a certified copy of the original. We also require a single photocopy for our files.
Documents in the official language of your country must be submitted with a German translation of the original or a certified copy. The translation must be done by a publicly appointed and sworn translator. These can be found here (link to external page).
The translation must be firmly attached to the original language document, e.g. with a rivet (no staples or paper clips).
Translations of non-certified copies cannot be accepted.
Please also note
If your qualifications are considered equivalent, a professional certificate can only be issued if the following additional documents are provided:
- Proof of your German language skills; we expect at least level B2 of the European Language Certificate in German.
- Medical certificate (health certificate) stating that your state of health is suitable for the exercise of the profession.
- Police clearance certificate (certificate of good conduct ).
The medical certificate and police clearance must be current at the time the permit is issued.
Please only request them if we specifically ask you to do so.

- Your certificate and the breakdown of results
- Curriculum vitae in tabular form with complete details of education, training and professional career. Please sign the resume.

- Passport or identity card.
- Confirmation of registration or proof of employment or declaration of intent that the profession is to be practiced in the state or city (e.g., Hamburg).
2. We can also request these documents (in separate files)
- Proof of school/training facility for the duration of the training.
- Proof of theoretical and practical lessons with indication of the number of hours per subject.
- Proof of practical training (clinical clerkships) in the functional areas/departments (with number of hours).
- Evidence of the nature and scope of the final examination: oral, written and practical subjects.
- Evidence of activities in your field of study (e.g. job references).
- Evidence of continuing education.
- “Clearance Certificate.”
This proves that you have not violated the professional code of conduct in any way. We will identify the authority from which you receive this certificate, if applicable. - Marriage certificate/family register in case of name change.
